The Safe-Stop™ Safety Shutdown System
PetroHab's Safe-Stop™ Safety Shutdown System (SSS) is patented by PetroHab and is the most advanced automatic shutdown system of its kind — and the only one in the world certified to the latest version of the pressurized rooms standard regulated by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), known as IEC 60079-13:2017. The Safe-Stop SSS is also third-party certified to the ATEX standard. It is designed to continuously monitor the desired overpressure inside the habitat and to always be on the lookout for flammable gases such as Methane and hazardous gases such as Hydrogen Sulphide, both inside and outside the habitat.

How It Works
Continuous Monitoring
The MCU and HGA continuously monitor overpressure inside the habitat and scan for flammable gases (Methane/LEL) and hazardous gases (H2S) both inside and outside the enclosure.
Pressure Loss Response
If the habitat loses pressure, the system shuts down hot work operations while leaving the intake blower on — maintaining a safe environment inside the enclosure.
Gas Detection Response
If harmful gas is detected inside the habitat, hot work operations are shut down. If monitored gases are detected at the air intake, both hot work operations and the air intake are shut down immediately.
Audio & Visual Alarm
The MCU and HGA both feature audio and visual alarms plus an Emergency Shut Down (ESD) button, ensuring workers are immediately alerted to any unsafe condition.
System Components
Main Control Unit (MCU)
The 'brains' of the Safe-Stop SSS. The MCU contains an electrical blower, an electronic damper placed downstream from the blower, hot work and electrical plugs, audio and visual alarm, and an Emergency Shut Down (ESD) button.
Habitat Gas Assembly (HGA)
The HGA includes a low-lying Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) detector, an LEL detector that can be raised to a height of up to 3 meters to detect light gases such as methane, an airlock control mechanism, an ESD button, audio and visual alarm, and optional Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide detectors.

ATEX Certified
Third-party certified to the ATEX standard for equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres, meeting European and internationally recognized requirements.
H2S & LEL Gas Detection
Low-lying H2S detector and an LEL detector (raiseable to 3 meters) continuously monitor for Hydrogen Sulphide and flammable gases such as Methane inside and outside the habitat.
Optional O2 & CO2 Monitoring
The HGA can be optionally equipped with Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide detectors to further monitor the atmosphere inside the habitat.
Emergency Shut Down (ESD) Button
Both the MCU and HGA feature ESD buttons, giving workers immediate manual shutdown capability in addition to the automatic response.
